I am so bad at this thing

So, it's been three months or so? And even longer since I took the effort to type out something longer than a caption. You will forgive me, I hope - things have been busy here, at least for the last few weeks.

August 13th was my last day at work. We had a rabbit spay that day, I think. Nice to have an op to finish work on. I left my uniform and my "Trainee Veterinary Nurse" badge behind, and that was that. This last year has taught me so much, about animals, people, and about myself. I have a better idea of what exactly I want to be, and apparently I am even more picky than I thought, for I can't count vet nurse in that category. I am not interested enough in the medical and surgical side of things. Zookeeping it will have to be.

On that note, I applied for a part-time keeper job at Bristol Zoo, but I was rejected. Turns out they'd received 125 applications for that single position. Learning that made me feel better; it's hardly surprising that I with my two months' zoo work experience was not the best candidate, but it was still a blow. So it's back to the original plan - volunteer at the zoo (they take volunteer keepers if you can commit to one day a week for six months) - and wait till they'll have me. I'll get a part-time job too to bring in some money.

And now it is only three days until the move! We have taken down the posters and packed up the books, and already our little flat is looking quite bare. I can't believe we have spent a year here. I am sad to leave, but looking forward to the Bristol house, and the first month or so of getting everything just right. The obligatory video 'house tour' will hopefully be exciting enough to get me to blog again, at least.

I am so happy that you had a great year at the vet's office and learned more about what you want and what you don't want. I think zookeeping sounds perfect for you and we can't wait to bring Marina to the Bristol Zoo one day to see you in action! Good luck with the move! Can't wait to see pictures - and the video, of course!
